With it being Mothers Day - lets take a look at Australias top female athletes. 

5 - MICHELLE PAYNE 

Payne in 2015, became the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup, riding Prince of Penzance. She became an advocate female figure during her victorious speech claiming "women can do anything ... so get stuffed". It was her remarkable feat of claiming the nations most prestigious hourseracing event that earns her a place in our top 5 female athletes.

4 - STEPHANIE GILMORE 

With injury tainting Gilmores surfing career to date. SHe remains as an enormouse figure on the female surfing tour. Gilmore has earnt an asstounding 6 world surfing championship crowns. With several years still left ahead for Gilmore on the circuit, she will most definantly have her eyes on another world title. 

3 - ELLYSE PERRY 

It is hard enough to master one sport at the top level let alone two! Perry is an incredible athlete reaching heights of national selection in both football and cricket. Indeed she is the first female to play in both football and cricket's World Cup for Australia. She has one titles wherever she has gone, however in recent times the 25 year old has been forced to centre her attention onto one sport. Cricket. Perry remains as one of the worlds most talented all rounders in womens cricket.

2 - ANNA MEARES 

Batted and bruised. Meares is the athlete that never gives up. The injury ridden Meares has achieved what many deem as a dream. In three Olympic Game appearances, she has achieved a breathtaking 5 gold medals, three silver and two bronze. Her Olympic achievements are coupled with the attaining 5 time Commonwealth Games champion. A world class cyclist amongst four different disciplines, Meares' talent cannot be underestimated.  

1 - SALLEY PEARSON 

In 2012, Pearson inspired a nation, winning gold in the 100m hurdles that accompanied her breaking the world record. AN effort that triumphed her achievements of silver four years earlier in Beijing. With many years ahead of Pearson in the professional sporting arena she proves to be considered a top medal chance for Australia in the near future.
