Weightlifting
It is a sport that stretches back towards ancient Egyptian and Greek societies to determine the strongest individual. It soon developed as an international sport in the 19th century. Weightlifting is an Olympic sport where an athlete attempts to life a barbel loaded with weight plates.
Weightlifting comprises of two competition lifts. They include the clean and jerk along with the snatch. In competition, the athlete is allowed three attempts to perform the lift correctly. The successful lifts with the two highest scores are combined to determine the overall result within a bodyweight category.

The Clean and Jerk involves the actions where the most weight can be lifted. The movement comprises of a barbell being lifted overhead in two distinct motions:
1- The Clean = Which entitles bringing the bar closer to the shoulders.
2- The Jerk = The movement where the athlete raises the bar over their head.
The Snatch Lifting Process

The Snatch evolves around power and speed of the human body. It has been tagged by many as one of the "fastest movements in sport". For example the "stock standard" snatch takes less then one second from the barbell being on the floor to overhead. This trend is continued through it taking usually less than 5 seconds to be fixed overhead in a standing position in a complete lift.
Weightlifting is a sport filled with strength, power and speed. It is a sport that in recent times has been under scrutiny through drug related incidents. However weightlifting as a sport still remains as one of the most well rounded activities to test the quality of the human body.
