Top 5 Moments in Aussie Sport

Do you remember these iconic moments in Australian sport?

1930
The greatest achievement of crickets best batsman

You probably won't REMEMBER this one, unless you were around 87 years ago (then good on you!). Sir Donald Bradman, the renowned Aussie cricket batsman made history against England in the Ashes at Headingley with his unmatchable 334 not out. No batsman till this day has been able to even equal this amazing feat.

1987
Australian Wimbledon underdog

In the 1987 Wimbledon final between Melbourne serve-volleyer Pet Cash and the world number one Ivan Lendl, our Aussie tennis icon was expected to give up under pressure but refused and defeated the world champion in straight sets. He began the trend of climbing into the stands after being the championship winner.

2000

Nations Sweetheart

In the 2000 Olympic games Cathy felt the weight of the nation's expectations when she was invited to light the Olympic ceremony flame but showed no mercy on the track taking home a gold medal in the 400m sprint.

2002

A surprising victory

It was in the 2002 Winter Olympics when Australian Olympic ice skater Steve Bradbury was trailing behind in last place. Little did we know he would be to glide to the finish in first place when the four other finalists fell on the final bend. Bradbury was the first individual to win gold for Australia in the 2002 Winter Olympics.

2012

Going for Gold!

In the 2012 London Paralympics Jacqueline Freeney brought home seven gold medals including, 400m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and the 100m relay. Freeney created a new Australian record for most gold medals won individually at a single Games.
