City 2 Surf
The City2Surf is an annual running event held in Sydney, covering a 14km course, from the heart of the city, to Bondi Beach. The event is one of the most popular running events in Australia, attracting more than 80,000 entrants. Held every year in early August, the event is typically regarded as a 'fun run', however the event also attracts competitive runners, who compete for the fastest time.
The Course
The City2Surf course starts in the heart of the city at Hyde park, passing through suburbs such as Kings Cross, Double Bay, Rose Bay, Vaucluse, Dover Heights, and finally Bondi Beach. The course can be seen in more detail below.
History
The City2Surf has been held annually since the 5th of September 1971, when the first run was held. Since its establishment, the route and distance has changed slightly, and has continued to attract an exponential number of entrants. In 2010 on the events 40th anniversary, it attracted a record 80,000 entrants, making it the largest run of its kind in the world.

Runners are staggered into groups, with the competitive runners at the start, and the fun, 'Back of the Pack' participants at the back. The event only continues to grow and attract more and more entrants, grounding its place as one of Australia's most popular running events.
