The Sports Vlog The Sports Vlog has been created by Jack, Myles, Rhys, Hamish and Dev to present viewers with an alternative understanding of the benefits of participating in sport. The vlog outlines 4 different benefits, with examples given for various sports. Members (in order of appearance) Deveree Correa Deveree took part in the vlog by both introducing and concluding the video, in which she both outlined the topic of discussion and gave an appropriate closing to the video. She also filmed Myles' part of the vlog. Myles Waller Myles discusses the first benefit of the vlog, which is related to exercise and diet. He does this with an example of Basketball. Myles also filmed both the introduction and conclusion of the vlog where Dev is on-screen. What is the most popular sport in Australia? It turns out Aussies have a few ways of expressing what their favourite sport is. By looking at statistics for event attendance, tv views and actual participation, we are able to see that a variety of sports take the podium for most popular. Spectatorship This table shows how event attendance for various Australian sport has changed over almost 20 years time. Its clear that AFL takes the winner for Aussie spectators, gaining about 1 million more match attenders over 17 years. Interestingly, Rugby League barely changes and soccer almost doubles its spectators. Another notable change is the huge drop in spectators for cricket, almost halving attendance. What could this mean? AFL vs NRL This is another interesting depiction of spectatorship between AFL and NRL for every state in Australia. Golf Golf is a unique sport played using a club and ball sport in which players aim to complete holes on various courses in as few strokes as possible. Stretching back as far as the 15th century originating in Scotland, the game has developed into becoming a worldwide sport played by people of all ages. A general game of golf at PGA (Professional Golfers Association) level is played over 18 holes, each containing unique features, such as rough (longer grass), sand bunkers and water hazards and being of a different layout to the other holes, each presenting its own challenge.There are many various types of the game, such as stroke play (the most common form), match play, skins, stableford and so on. City 2 Surf The City2Surf is an annual running event held in  Sydney , covering a 14km course, from the heart of the city, to Bondi Beach. The event is one of the most popular running events in Australia, attracting more than 80,000 entrants. Held every year in early August, the event is typically regarded as a 'fun run', however the event also attracts competitive runners, who compete for the fastest time. The Course The City2Surf course starts in the heart of the city at Hyde park, passing through suburbs such as Kings Cross, Double Bay, Rose Bay, Vaucluse, Dover Heights, and finally Bondi Beach. History The State of Origin competition between New South Wales and Queensland was instituted in 1982, with Queensland winning the first series, as well as the following two 2-1. Weightlifting  It is a sport that stretches back towards ancient Egyptian and Greek societies to determine the strongest individual. It soon developed as an international sport in the 19th century. Weightlifting is an Olympic sport where an athlete attempts to life a barbel loaded with weight plates.  Weightlifting comprises of two competition lifts. They include the clean and jerk along with the snatch. In competition, the athlete is allowed three attempts to perform the lift correctly. The AFL: An Aussie Made Sport Little bit of history The sport started off as the Victorian Football League (VFL) with its season debut in 1897, where teams were exclusively from the state of Victoria. After expanding to further Australian states during the 1980's, the VFL changed to the Australian Football League for the 1990 season. So why isn't AFL played in other countries? In 1888, a team from England toured Australia and played 25 matches against Australian teams in which they won 14. It was planned that Australian teams would make a return tour to England but it didn't go through. Therefore international expansion of the game subsided and it it went on to become a unique game to Australia. The sport today AFL is a contact sport played with an oval shaped ball, involving 2 sides of 18 players on a large oval shaped field.
